Retro-doors: modern lines

September 17th, 2008

Today antiquarian articles, fragments of original historical interior, and especially - doors provide reputation not only of palaces and the most prestigious hotels of the world, but also of any private house.
In this connection it would be interesting to study experience of Dutchs, where the fashion on historical interior style has already entered long time ago. About forty years ago, artful Dutchs have thought up how to wash off paint from country provincial furniture and by that showed “white” antiques to the world. The old tree, being kept by long time under paint, got beautiful amber color.
It calls up with major principles of world restoration, where preservation of original subject is more and more appreciated, only strengthening and its maintenance in the kind, which has reached our times, in a counterbalance to reconstruction, when the destroyed or lost parts of a historical subject practically, are anew restored.
Recently fashion for “olden” houses has come to the USA. Builders try to give slightly second-hand kind to absolutely new private residences, using shabby, beaten, or even creased details of decor. In order to create illusion of decay, architects and designers added cracks, glued shabby wall-papers, selected carpets and curtains with muffled, as though faded, paints.
Such old-fashioned style gave special “gloss” to private residences and allowed building companies to raise the prices three times.
Soon it has become known that owners of such rich private residences, looking for antiquarian materials, almost on flea markets, trying to find old tiles, or slices of a cypress covering of the house. So, the idea has proved that the original aristocratism and internal nobleness genetically aspires only to historically original interior subjects.

First advice: donтАЩt establish closed case with coat hanger! Nobody objects that it is beautiful, accurate and тАж inconvenient. Besides such case in hall should have hanger with hooks.

Think twice: will you hang up wet thing in case on a coat hanger?
As to a mirror, here there are some variants: a hinged mirror (oval, rectangular or figured) with a small table - its main disadvantage is that you cannot see in full height; the mirror door of case which, besides functional purpose, will allow you to increase visually the size of hall, but it also has a lack, the matter is that the bottom part of a mirror in hall is usually and becomes dirty, especially if there is a dog in the house. And, at last, the combined door, which bottom part, is made of the panel, and top - from a mirror cloth. The height of the bottom part should be designed so that you could see you.

Shelves for scarves and caps are usually placed above a hanger, footwear - in the bottom part of a case or in separately arranged shoe case. It is convenient and practical, when it is located under the open hanger with hooks. It is possible to decorate a lateral wall of a case with angular or rounded shelves; it is possible to make a little table for phone, a small bedside-table with boxes for gloves and other trifles.

Planning hanger with hooks, it is necessary to provide some hooks at height of 110-120 cm - bags, short jackets or children’s things will conveniently be placed there.

Dressing by color

January 3rd, 2008

From all possible ways of dressing color - is the most dynamical, the fastest and impressing one. All without exception, professional designers like to experiment with various combinations of colors in interior.
It is important to understand, how colors are combined. For achievement of the effect conceived by you three basic schemes can be used: monochrome, one-voice-frequency and contrast.
The monochrome scheme uses shades only of one color. It can be any color, and for revival variations of one shade of different saturations and a tonality are used. Monochrome schemes assume unity, harmony, open space and continuity. Effect is always calming. However be cautious, so that the room did not become boring and monotonous. It can be wall-papers under painting with a convex relief or decorative plaster.
The one-voice-frequency scheme combines close on a spectrum colors, and the nearest shades of the next, “related” color. For example, if the basic tone is dark blue, your scheme can include blue-green, blue-violet and red-violet shades. But it is possible to make the scheme more interesting, having added shades of different saturation and brightness. One-voice-frequency schemes will give more energy and will stimulate your activity.
The contrast scheme - is the most courageous and strong one. And, as the eclecticism is in fashion now, it combines contrast or opposite colors, such as yellow and dark blue or red and green.
But do not forget, that contrast colors on a background each other seem more brightly, therefore use the given scheme more cautiously, include colors of different brightness and saturation. The supplementing scheme is ideal for rooms, where there is a vigorous activity, for example, for kitchen or sitting room.
